Aberdeen
Aberdeen is set 15 minutes south of Scone along the New England Highway. The Hunter River flows past Aberdeen thus making it a very picturesque town with Jefferson Park centrally situated and the home of tennis, golf, bowls, sporting fields, etc. Annual Campdraft and Pony Club are well supported by the community. Although it is small and has a population of around 1,200, it hosts many events throughout the year such as the Aberdeen Highland Games which had its inaugural games in 2000 and 2006 was the first year of the Great Aberdeen Pumpkin Festival.
Aberdeen with its surrounding beauty of valleys, hills and lush river flats is also near the southern access route to Lake Glenbawn.
Aberdeen has craft shops and also has monthly markets held on the 3rd Sunday of each month on St Joseph’s High School's front oval.
Aberdeen was well known for the Australian Meat Holdings until its closure in 1999, but since then the community has come together to create and make a most attractive town both physically and economically.
